Healthy Vietnamese fruits during the ride


At Vietnam Bike Tours we love to share the benefits of a healthy diet with our customers. During our trips we use some time to stop at local places to enjoy traditional meals. As we spend most of the time riding, it might just be for a few minutes that we stop and share a quick snack with the team. Fruits are especially important when you are riding and being here in Vietnam, as we have several fruits that you may have never tried in your life…and you will definitely love them. Apart from an exquisite flavor of the cuisine, we would like to explain to you about the healthy benefits of some of our more exotic fruits.

Dragon fruit

Like any tropical fruit, dragon fruit has high amounts of liquid inside (almost 90% is water with a sweet flavor). It is a fruit with low amounts of calories and carbohydrates, which turns it into a very beneficial food for health-minded people. Thanks to the liquid of the fruit, it is used as diuretic food that prevents the retention of water. The most striking feature is that it is one of the fruits with the highest content of vitamin C (almost 55% of its composition is this nutrient). It is highly regarded as playing a part in strengthening the immune system and increasing the body’s defenses.

Also, the consumption of this fruit helps in the formation of tissues, bones, red blood cells, and collagen. It is a powerful antioxidant that helps make sure the body’s cells are in good condition and are able to endure attacks on its system.

 

Durian

So maybe the bad thing about this fruit is that it smells really bad…but once you work past the odor, this is one fruit you will enjoy that is healthy and tasty, packed with many benefits for your body.

The durian lowers cholesterol, has fiber and acts as a mild laxative, contains antioxidants that scavenge free radicals, prevents heart diseases, and improves the cognitive process. It improves arthritis by reducing inflammation and pain, and it prevents anemia and bone diseases. Durian is even very helpful for those with common ailments such as migraines and headaches.

This one includes some of the more important benefits for our health since this fruit is high in fiber. Fiber helps to prevent diabetes, contributes to better digestion, and also contains vitamins A and C, whose antioxidants function improves brain function. It also performs a dilating function of blood vessels, improving blood flow.

 

Rambutan

This small and curious fruit has been used for hundreds of years as a complementary medicine for the treatment of diabetes and hypertension. In turn, rambutan’s properties make it impossible to deny its importance to the diet. The presence of carbohydrates and proteins help increase energy levels and prevent swelling in the body. Their vitamin C content , for example , help the absorption of iron and copper; this helps to eliminate free radicals from the body. One property of rambutan that is also worth mentioning is a very important compound called gallic acid, which also has an effect on free radicals by protecting the body from damage caused to it and by fighting cancer. Their therapeutic functions are perfect when it comes to eliminating intestinal parasites or relieve diarrhea and fever. It is also used for beauty treatments, especially for the hair, either as direct application or as a mask.
