The Biosphere Reserve of Can Gio

In this tour we are going to travel into the mangrove forests of the UNESCO-listed Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, a wonderful eco adventure just a few miles from Ho Chi Minh City.

Nearly devastated during the American War  by bombs and the spread of Agent Orange defoliants, the mangrove is now full of life again, thanks to the efforts of reforestation by their inhabitants.

Well-known for its extraordinary diversity, our ride through the biosphere will have you discovering more than 200 species of animals and 52 species of flora. And to explore this amazing ecosystem even more, we are going to put our bikes in a canoe to visit the mangrove forest and the Rung Sac Guerrilla Base (where the tenth commando stayed from 1966 to 1975, contributing and sacrificing themselves to national unification)… But we have to be careful…on our way we will see saltwater crocodiles, wild cats, pythons, and the most famous inhabitants of the place: the monkeys!

Can you ever imagine yourself riding among monkeys? At monkey island we will see that the mangrove forest is placed between the Saigon river and the sea. We will spend some time there, as these monkeys are really playful –although we always have to be careful since they are still wild animals. This is going to be a really fun adventure to escape from the noisy Ho Chi Minh for a while.

Then we will keep riding to Dan Xay Bridge where we will take another canoe to visit the VamSat Eco–Tourist zone. And to truly have an appreciation of the grandiosity of the mangrove forest, one of the most extensive in the world, we will leave one more time on our bikes to go up to the Tang Bong Tower. From its 25m height, we can enjoy the amazing landscapes that Can Gio mangrove forest has to offer to riders.

Of course, this is probably too much of a wild experiences for a single day, so our bikers deserve a rest in the Cangio beach to finish this exciting ride…do you want to join us?

  1. […] From central District 7, head on towards Huynh Tan Phat at Binh Thuan District and catch the Binh Khanh Ferry. To cross, you just need a whopping 1,000 VND! You’d be in the company of motorbikes, buses, and cars. The earliest ferry out is at 5 am and there’s a ferry every 15 minutes. Getting to Can Gio is just 5 minutes away and if you’re worried about the sea-worthiness of the ferry, I suggest you read more about it here. Read more about Can Gio here. […]
