Best tour operators, hotels honoured in VIETNAM 2010

The Viet Nam Tourism Association last week announced the winners of the Viet Nam Tourism Awards, honouring the best tour operators, hotels and tourism-related service providers in Viet Nam last year.

HCM City, as the country’s biggest tourism centre, received the most prizes for best hotels and tour operators.

HCM City also had four of the top 10 five-star hotels in 2009. They were Majestic, Rex, Renaissance Riverside Sai Gon and Windsor Plaza.

The list also includes Melia, Daewoo, Metropolitan and InterContinental Westlake in Ha Noi, and Vinpearl Resort & Spa and Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay in Khanh Hoa Province.

Joint effort to promote tourism in Japan

The central city of Da Nang will join hands with Vietnam Airlines to promote Viet Nam’s tourism in Japan.

The city will contribute US$50,000 to the carrier to organise road shows in Tokyo and Osaka this September, on the occasion of the JATA World Tourism Congress and Travel Fair in Japan.

The promotion will focus on introducing Viet Nam, the central region in particular, as a destination for Japanese tourists.

Da Nang will be trumpeted as a gateway for Japanese visitors to travel to Viet Nam.

Ha Noi tourist festival set for October

As part of the National Tourism Year, the Thang Long-Ha Noi International Tourism Festival will be held between October 2 and 5 at the Bao Son Paradise Theme Park, to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Ha Noi.

According to Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, Deputy Chairwoman of Ha Noi People’s Committee, a wide range of cultural activities and performances, including love duets, traditional opera and water puppetry will be showcased at the event.

It also includes a tourism fair which will feature more than 35 overseas tourist companies from China, Japan, South Africa, France and the US and representatives from the Asian Network of Major Cities and the Council for the Promotion of Tourism in Asia.

Annual horse race in Lao Cai

More than 60 amateur jockeys from 11 communes in Bac Ha District, Lao Cai Province, attended the 2010 horse race at Bac Ha Stadium late last week.

The horse race is held annually by the northwest provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Phu Tho.

There was also a cultural event to celebrate the horse race and the signing ceremony for 2010-15 tourism cooperation between eight northern mountain provinces the day before.

Saigontourist helps promote cruises

Saigontourist Travel Service Co. has joined hands with its alliance, the Asia Cruise Services Network, to promote the Asian cruise industry and the country’s services for cruise passengers.

The promotion took place at the Seatrade All Asia Cruise Convention in China’s Suzhou between July 23 and 25.

The alliance, which held the first meeting last December, will enable its members to promote cruise services in Asia.

Saigontourist received some 3,200 cruise tourists on board the SuperStar cruise ship in HCM City on Tuesday. The company has so far this year served some 40,000 international cruise passengers.

Ha Noi to host big circus festival

The Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Viet Nam Circus Federation will organise the third International Circus Festival in Ha Noi between August 6 and 11, aiming to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Ha Noi.

The event, the biggest-ever circus festival in the country, is expected to attract troupes from Viet Nam, China, South Korea, Mongolia, Russia, Ukraine, Pole, France, Germany, the US and Mexico. —VNS
