Da Nang hosts beach festival

The central city of Da Nang will kick off a summer beach festival with a series of tourism and sea sport activities tomorrow, aiming to attract more local travellers in the summer travel season. The festival, which will last until next Sunday, will include aerobic performances, dragon boat racing, painting contests for children, canoeing, parachuting and swimming contests, among other activities. City tour operators have launched tours offering travellers such activities as diving to look at coral reefs, fishing, sightseeing on Son Tra Peninsula and the Ba Na Hills.

Viet Nam gets on honeymoon list

Tourists enjoy ostrich rides

In addition to hills, waterfalls and thousands of varieties of flowers, visitors to Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong can see and ride ostriches. At the Prenn Waterfalls, some 10km from Da Lat, ostriches line up as battle horses to wait for tourists. The ostriches are trained to carry people, who climb up on the ostrich’s back and sit firmly in the harness. Riders only need to tap on the bird to tell it to run.

Football fans book S Africa tours

The number of visitors booking tours to South Africa rose sharply a week before the FIFA World Cup 2010 began in South Africa on June 11, said tours operators from HCM City and Ha Noi. Vietravel said 80 people bought tours to South Africa in the first week of June. Most of them registered a free and easy tour, of which travel firms only provided air tickets and hotel services.

Saigontourist welcomes cruise ships

Saigontourist Travel Service Co welcomed some 3,600 cruise tourists and crew members on board Costa Classica and Costa Romantica cruise ships of the European Cruise line Costa Crociere SpA this week. The Costa Classica cruise ship, bringing 1,500 tourists mostly from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, docked at Ha Long City in Quang Ninh Province on Monday. During the two-day visit, these cruise tourists visited Ha Long Bay, Da Nang and Hoi An. The 2,100 cruise tourists on board Costa Romantica, which docked at HCM City’s Navi Port on Wednesday, were taken to attractions in HCM City, Da Nang and Quang Nam, before leaving Da Nang yesterday.

Windsor ranked amongst best hotels

Expedia travelers have ranked Windsor Plaza Hotel, which is located in HCM City’s District 5, among the world’s best hotels on this year’s Expedia Insiders’ Select list. The list formally recognises individual hotels worldwide that consistently deliver excellent service, a great overall experience and a notable value. The full list represents only a small percentage of the world’s top hotels from the more than 110,000 hotel properties offered on Expedia.

Charter flights bring more tourists

More international tourists will be coming to HCM City on chartered flights later this year, according to the managing director of Asian Trails Co Ltd, Bui Viet Thuy Tien. She said the two HCM City-based tour operators Asian Trails Co and Lanta-An Travel will receive chartered flights every two weeks from November 2010 to March 2011. The visitors will come from Sweden and will then head for beach resorts for relaxation. The two companies are expected to receive chartered flights from Russia as well. — VNS
